Who we are
This policy explains how Handy Grocer Inc. (“Handy Grocer”, “we”) collects, uses and shares personal information when you visit handygrocer.com, shop at a Handy Grocer smart store, or work with us as a host location. Questions go to hello@handygrocer.com.
Information we collect
- When you contact us or request a store: your name, email, phone number, role, location name and address, location type, approximate daily visitors and any notes you include.
- When you shop at a store: a payment token from your card or phone wallet, processed by our payment processor (we don’t receive full card numbers), the items you take, the time, location and amount of each purchase, and your receipt contact details. If you use the Handy Grocer app, your account details and purchase history.
- Cameras and shelf sensors: images and sensor readings from inside the store, used to detect which items are taken.
- When you visit our website: technical information our hosting provider records automatically, such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested. We use it to keep the site running and secure and to limit abuse of our forms. The website doesn’t use advertising or analytics cookies.
How we use information
- Respond to requests and schedule site visits
- Operate stores, process payments and send receipts
- Detect items taken, prevent fraud and theft, and resolve billing questions
- Restock stores and choose products
- Calculate and pay revenue share to host locations, using sales totals rather than individual shoppers’ identities
- Improve our service and comply with the law
How we share information
We don’t sell personal information. We share it only with service providers that process payments, host our systems or send email; with Micromart, which provides the smart store hardware and software we operate; with host locations, which receive sales totals for their store; and with authorities when the law requires it.
Our service providers may store and process information outside the province, state or country where you live, including in the United States, where it may be accessible to authorities under local law.
Cameras and sensors
Images and sensor readings from inside the store are used to detect the items you take and to investigate disputed charges or theft. Images are kept for 30 days unless they’re needed for a dispute or the law requires longer. Each store displays a notice.
How long we keep it
We keep personal information only as long as needed for the purposes above: store requests for 24 months after our last contact, purchase records for 7 years for tax and accounting, and camera images as described above.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, or opt out of marketing email, by writing to hello@handygrocer.com. We may need to confirm your identity before acting on a request. Depending on where you live, including California and Canada, you may have additional rights. We won’t treat you differently for using them. If you’re not satisfied with our response, you can contact the privacy regulator where you live.
Security
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards suited to the information we handle. No system is completely secure.
Children
Our website isn’t directed to children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their personal information.
Changes to this policy
We’ll post any changes on this page and update the date above.
